Painting Supplies

Any redecorating scheme, whether it's for you or for the buyer you hope will choose your property over all the other townhomes in Toronto, should start with a fresh coat of paint. New paint in light colors brightens up a room, makes it seem larger, cleaner, and more welcoming. However, if you don't have the money to hire professional painters, repainting the house can be a big job. The faster you prepare yourself the faster the job will get done, so use our guide to help you make a list of the painting supplies you will need to shop for.

Paint

The paint itself is the most important item on your list and the one that you should purchase first, since its composition and color will determine what type of supplies you need to apply it and clean up afterward. Those looking to redo their Kitsilano condos with a minimum of hassle should look at an acrylic paint, which is water based and easier to clean up. Oil based paints, however, last longer, with enamels lasting longest of all. The longer they last, however, the more difficult the cleanup. Unless you're buying a type of paint with the primer included, don't forget the primer. Buy tinted primer for dark colors to reduce the number of coats needed to cover.

Applying and Cleanup

To apply your paint you'll need a large supply of paint brushes (either hair or sponge) in various sizes (large for walls, small for trim). Additionally, you may want some paint rollers (handle, roller, and tray sold separately) for the larger walls in your Mississauga condominium. Painter's tape is also a must to keep unwanted paint off of windows and door frames. Cleanup for acrylic paints is easy - just soap and water - while oils require chemical paint thinners. If you're just taking a break rather than stopping for the day, simply cover your brush in cling film and put it in the freezer until you're ready to start again.

Outdoor Project Needs

Painting the outside of downtown Toronto homes is a little trickier than painting the inside. You'll need ladders or scaffolding to reach the highest places, along with long poles for your paint rollers (or hockey sticks and duct tape if you're trying to save money). Be warned that indoor paint will not last out of doors. You must buy the tougher outdoor type.

Indoor Project Needs

When preparing your office space for lease in Toronto, collect up enough old bedsheets or table cloths to cover the furniture and the floor beneath the wall you're painting to prevent the paint from ruining the furniture or flooring. Alternatively, you can purchase sheet plastic or special drop cloths. If you're sensitive to fumes you may also want to buy a mask to avoid damaging your lungs.
